How Medication for Addiction Treatment Works

Medications for Addiction Treatment (MAT) is an approach to recovery that combines medications with clinical services to create the most biologically and psychologically supportive conditions for the healing of the body and mind.

MAT is an evidence-based FDA-approved practice utilizing pharmacological interventions.  These services are offered to all Phoenix House clients by our medical staff and can be implemented or stopped at any point during their treatment at Phoenix House.  These MAT services include:

  • Buprenorphine for the treatment of opioid use disorder
  • Naltrexone for the treatment of alcohol and opioid use disorder
  • Partnership with local methadone clinics to ensure continuity of care for those already on methadone
  • Transitional services for Low Dose Methadone to Suboxone; Suboxone to Naltrexone and Naltrexone to Vivitrol
